Trump Tower Opens in Las Vegas

Donald Trump's latest venture will open today with little fanfare. Trump International Hotel & Tower Las Vegas is the newest addition to the Las Vegas Strip.

The ultra-luxury hotel is boutique-like with more than 1,200 non-smoking suites. There is no casino. The 24-karat gold glass tower stands 645 feet tall and overlooks one of the busiest intersections on the Strip. It's in close proximity to Wynn Las Vegas and sister hotel, Encore, which is still under construction. The Venetian sits across the street with its new luxury hotel, Palazzo, and the classy Fashion Show Mall is Trump's next-door neighbor.

Trump had initially said it would build a second tower after units of the first hotel-condo sold quickly, however, construction has yet to begin and press releases make no mention of plans for the second tower.

Trump International Hotel and Towers is a joint venture between real estate developer Donald Trump and former Frontier Hotel owner, Phil Ruffin. There is no grand opening extravaganza planned for today's opening.

Vegas Nightclubs Not So PURE

Pure Management Group, which runs one of Las Vegas' largest nightclubs, is in a world of trouble. Last month, the IRS raided the company's office headquarters and main nightclub, Pure, after an investigation allegedly found club doormen were collecting more than their fair share of cash.

Doormen at Pure are accused of taking home up to $500,000 annually because they milk club-goers at the door. If you don't provide the cash, you don't pass go. It doesn't take a genius to figure out a doorman doesn't make that much money, legally.

Anywho, what happens next could make or break some of the most popular nightclubs in Las Vegas. Pure won't be the only nightclub the feds will be eyeing. Management at other locations might want to get their books straight and fast.

Norm Clarke, who writes a daily gossip column for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, reports that PMG has hired big guns out of California to fix its now bruised reputation. The PR group has also helped the likes of Rush Limbaugh and everyone's favorite Hilton, Paris.

Maybe nightclub operators will take note and change their ways. It's been a long time coming. Money inside these clubs flow into pockets faster than the bubbly into champagne glasses. Nightclubs have long raped and pillaged visitors, but in recent years it's gone too far.

Stay tuned... this hot topic is bound to sizzle for awhile.......

What's HOT and NOT in Las Vegas

So you want to know about Las Vegas? This 24 hour playground is a pipe dream for some and a reality for others.

When you come to Las Vegas the city is your oyster. So much to do, so little time. So what's a non-experienced visitor like yourself to do? Let's look at your options. Or better yet, let me begin by telling you what not to do.

Don't pretend you are a high roller. The people who run this town know the difference between you and the real thing. Have you seen those TV ads, "Your Vegas is Showing?" Those people are exactly who we laugh at when they try to get into a club flashing a $20 bill. It's not going to happen.

Don't presume you are hot, especially you ladies. This city is full of fantastic plastic. You may be hot in your hometown, but chances are you're not worth a second look here. You have to pay to look good.

Don't wear cheap clothes that you think will get you by for the night. In Las Vegas, the real players wear Armani, Versace, Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel, Balenciaga, etc. Your shopping spree at Dillards won't cut it... not if you want to fit in.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade by saying you can't go out and have a good time in what others like to call Sin City, but rather warning you not to try so hard.

So, what can you do? Buy one spanking new, hot outfit for the night you are going out on the town. Try something new and sexy, but don't look like a hooker or a douche-bag. That's really not the look that will get you in any place worth being seen.

Find a great restaurant to start the evening. There are so many options now and plenty of places to test your pleasure palate. Don't go where every other tourist will go.

Don't expect it to be easy to get into a club. The reality is you will have to spend big bucks to get through the door, especially if you are male . It's easier for pretty ladies, especially if you're in a group. Arrive early to avoid a long line and be prepared to slip the doorman or bouncer some cash. Don't be a jerk about it. They don't care. There are plenty of people that will drop some serious dough to get inside.

What's hot in Las Vegas right now are ultra-lounges, poolside parties, tattoo studios in resorts and downtown's reemerging nightlife.
